Fenice, the rediscovered jewel

Fenice is a collection of jewels in which the world of ceramics and 3D printing blend together, building a bridge between small manufacturing and machinery. The challenge on which the project is based is to use ceramic processing waste and nobilitate it through the use of new technologies. Through an analysis of the ceramic production chains emerges how these activities generate large volumes of waste. The purpose of the project was to collect the waste of these productions, rejuvenating the impossible elements to re-enter into the cyclical production of ceramics. Redrawing the geometries of the recovery fragments have developed three different jewelery collections. Printed in 3D, defining a design and production model from “open” logic: the almost infinite variety of decorations will allow every designer to design their own jewelry collection. A common characteristic of all pieces of the collection is the collet containing the cobs: the octagonal shape allows to incorporate most of the cobs that, by nature, are irregular and therefore difficult to handle. What the project implements is in fact a cross-connection between the world of design, the world of innovation and craftsmanship, reflecting the dynamics typical of the production chain of ceramic artifacts, overcoming solid and rigid dichotomies such as industry and craftsmanship, tradition and modernity, supporting the transformation of taste and fashion and also new market needs.
