Camila Xavier Maia
Doctoral Researcher, Product Designer
Camila is a product designer (PUC-Rio, 2017) and a ceramicist specialized in Food Design and Innovation (IULM, 2021). She has worked as a researcher at the Biomimicry Lab of the State University of Rio de Janeiro since 2022 and at the Tridimensional Experimentation Hub of PUC-Rio since 2024.
As a third-year PhD candidate in the Department of Arts and Design at PUC-Rio, her research focuses on the study of the shape and texture of native fruits and seeds using advanced 3D capture technologies, aiming to protect biodiversity and inspire strategies for a sustainable humanity.
Her practice investigates how natural forms can inform design processes, material experimentation, and aesthetic thinking. Through both research and making, she explores the relationship between biological structures and cultural artifacts.
