Claudio Freitas de Magalhães
Claudio Freitas de Magalhães is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design at PUC-Rio (D.A.D. / PUC-Rio). He holds a degree in Industrial Design from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio de Janeiro – PUC-Rio (1985), an MBA in Marketing at IAG / PUC-Rio (1991), and an MSc (1994) and a D.Sc. (2003) in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ.
He was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Cognitive, Linguistic & Psychological Sciences at Brown University, with a postdoctoral scholarship from CNPq – National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (2017 to July 2018).
Since 1995, he has also coordinated the Laboratório de Gestão em Design, working within the D.A.D. Post-Graduate Programme (MA and Ph.D.). In 1997, he published the book
“Strategic Design: Industrial Design Integration and Action Within the Companies”
through the Brazilian Design Program.
With Professor Jorge Lopes, he created the Núcleo de Experimentação Tridimensional – NEXT in 2011, where experiments on the design process are developed using emerging technologies such as 3D printers, 3D scanners, tomography, parametric design and eye tracking. He has been developing research and processes for product innovation, human resource training, and extension activities in the following areas: strategic design, design policy and design for policy, technological innovation, design management, design entrepreneurship, project methodology, design/visual thinking, and visual learning.
