In 2010, The Economist devoted its cover to the Data Deluge that threatened to overwhelm businesses and governments that had not taken the phenomenon seriously and adopted adequate countermeasures. The deluge has arrived, but the feeling is that the potential inherent in the vast amount of data available to us, and which we ourselves increasingly produce, is still largely untapped. igital manufacturing technologies now allow us to represent digital data in a multisensory way, so that we can see and touch its most dynamic aspects.
From Mind To Reality is an experimental project that explored the theme of data representation through digital manufacturing processes. Developed with the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and funded by Fondazione BNC, Polifactory and Density Design organised a workshop from 2 to 6 May 2016 involving 50 students from the Politecnico di Milano School of Design: students from the Master’s Degree in Communication Design and Design & Engineering.

The results of the workshop are 10 projects that explore different forms of relationship between data and digital manufacturing: they enhance the physical dimension and tactile interaction with data, promote greater empathy and easier and deeper assimilation of the value of data, stimulating new behaviours.
