Gaia Rubino

Product Designer - Talent in Residence

Born in Crema in 1998, where she grew up in her father’s workshop, immediately starting to tinker with product design and drawing. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design at Politecnico di Milano, she enrolled in the Master’s degree Course in Integrated Product Design.

She has always felt linked to the world of making or craftsmanship, both through family roots and her interest in making her hands dirty. She believes that design represents a powerful way to improve people and their relationships with the everyday objects.

Abstract
The thesis deals with the repair of everyday objects for users without special manual skills.

The aim of the project concerns the design of a repair process technique, that combines distributed design and digital fabrication for the realisation of a system of iconic, configurable and 3D-printable micro-elements called ‘repairers‘ – which allow a user to design and realise his or her customised repairing.
